Capstar

Subject: Re: Flea control new: Capstar

The active ingredient in Capstar is nitrenpyram. It belongs to the
nicotinoid family of compounds. Imidacloprid (Advantage) is also a
nicotinoid, and is closely related. While nicotine is highly toxic and
addictive, the related nicotinoids appear to have have low toxicity to
mammals. Imidacloprid is widely used as an agricultural insecticide and
nitrenpyram is currently being considered for approval as a cotton
insecticide. It is not yet registered in the US.
