Re: Early clicker training

whoops sent the other before replying....
Lori-
It's funny I just got off the phone with Gina talking about age and class and then saw your email.  Gina said being around strange dogs is a concern before at least their third series of shots.  Hope you don't mind me quoting you Gina!  I'm going to talk the the trainer some more, but it sounds pretty safe.  The classes are held on a concrete floor that gets sprayed with disinfectant.  This class will be very small, the trainers' puppy, mine, and 1 or 2 more.  But I am going to talk to the trainer about this specifically.  That pup's health comes first!  By the way I'm naming her Katy, so from now on I'll just refer to her by name.  Her registered name is going to be Brier's Katy Did Double Down.  I'm curious about what others are naming their pups.  Well Lori - we all know Gambler's name...

Hi Peggy,

The information on clicker training is very interesting.
Please, tell us about the process as you go.  Will the
puppy be going to your classes, Peggy?  I have heard
it is safest to wait until the pups have had their last
set of boosters (about 4 months) before getting them
around very many other dogs.  I think it has to do
with their immunity and the potential for picking up
illnesses, particularly parvo.  I'd be really interested to
hear what others have to say on this issue, especially
given changing view about annual immunizations for dogs.

Thanks again for the info on the books and please let
us know how the training goes!

Take care, Lori

Hi Joan-
I plan on clicker training my Casino pup and have been doing some searching.

We start our class the week after I get the puppy, which I hope isn't too
soon.  I'd love to hear more about what you're doing with your Dollar.  If
folks on the list don't want us jamming the waves with clicker stories you
can email me privately at catboat3@home.com.
