We are running a vanilla Linux 2.6.30.4 on a Debian 5.0 installation and
grub 0.97.

Chainloading with the old pxeboot.emu has always worked (and still does).

booting manually (without invoking bootinfo) gives the same result:
* hitting ESC, and then 'c' for the grub commandline
* root (hd0,2)
* chainloader +1
* boot

changing edd=skipmbr fixes the issue too.

  The hardware is a Supermicro H8DMR-i2 based machine with 2x opteron
2212 running Bios version 2.1.

The machines are equiped with an IPMI card (Supermicro AOC-SIM1U-3B+ &
AOC-SIM1U-3D). The control interface uses the second lan interface on
that card ( Intel 82541PI gigabit ethernet ) witch is usable by the OS.
Firmware on these cards is v01.50.00

Thanks,
Jos
