Very Important Info!
Hi All,
First Haus came through both his neuter, spay and lump removal just fine
today and is resting at our feet. He had a lump on his foot which was like
Hunters under his chin. We sent ours off too to see what the pathologist
has to say but more importantly to see what antibiotic to use. There was
infection inside. This lump appeared shortly after he had his embolism so
we could not remove it till he was strong enough. Now you say he came
through both his neuter and spay? Yes Haus was what's called monorcid
<SP> simply a boy with only one testicle descended.
So he got one of his testicles removed normally: neuter and the other a
search and rescue mission leaving him a spay scar.
Now what is really important??? Below is some information you all should
have regarding BARF fed dogs and puppies. This is probably the answer to
why Hogan and Riley's blood works were off so bad when they were so sick
with what was definitely giardia, but still the vet's were looking at the
lab reports and saying REALLY sick puppies... Just good information to have.

I heard from other barf feeders that their dogs too had elevated
BUNs. My understanding is that BUN is influenced by the protein level
the dog eats. Do you think the 'normal' BUN levels that the lab uses
have been reached from kibble fed dogs, and are perhaps not
appropriate for barf fed ones that eat more protein ? That is, the
barf fed dogs with a higher BUN do NOT have a kidney problem?
Or does it mean that they ARE getting too much protein?
This doesn't really answer your question, but at a recent seminar, Dr.
Jean Dodds DVM stated that dogs eating raw diets frequently have elevated
BUN
and creatinine levels - and that this is normal.
