Judi,

We have a biologist on the list and perhaps Renee can tell us more but YES
wild mushrooms can be a serious health hazard to dogs. I do as you do
daily inspections and plucking. They grow over night as mushrooms grow in
wet dark places.

What you missed out on was way back when,,, Carol and Shaun Jackson took
Hunter on a over night camp out and the little bugger got a hold of some
mushrooms that made him quite ill. He was very young, even though he
probably only got a little bit as Carol dug most of it out of his mouth
being so small was not to his advantage.

If it makes you feel any safer, I have not noticed that our dogs are
attracted to mushrooms. I think dogs do tend to know what is not safe for
the most part, but puppies well need I say more? Taste everything.
