This is close to what I have always done except I too have never heard that 
retrievers are in the high risk for parvo category.  More the reverse.  But 
I have always done extra parvo boosting because our dogs go to so many 
places that parvo could be.  5 1/2 to 8 months months is a high susceptibly 
time for all dogs I have been told as the titer often can drop then.  Don't 
have an answer for why but Kaycee who had parvo as a 7 month old way back 
when we didn't have the KF-11 vax. is proof enough for me that extra parvo 
protection is prudent.
