RE: Puppy Open House

Thanks for the email. My special bunny is one of many that I have
rehabilitated this summer although 50% of them died (that is the statistic
and my husband told me that I could not beat the odds). I volunteer at a
wildlife rehabilitation center but some of us are bunny moms because bunnies
are very fragile and need one caretaker and lots of quiet. Well, my bunny
jumped out my hand when I went to weigh her one day and broke her leg. We
got her leg fixed but didn't realize the entire time she had some hairline
fracture in her back. She was a very special bunny--a real trooper that put
up with a lot. The bunnies we get are ones people find abandoned or I should
say they think are abandoned. Bunnies only tend to their babies once in the
morning and once in the evening and so if you find a nest of bunnies, they
may not be abandoned. Put a string across the nest to see if the mom comes
back. If not, then that is when to take them to a wildlife center. Also,
we get lots of bunnies attacked by cats. I had a baby die on me this last
week that had been attacked by a cat. I've had many babies die on me. It
never gets easy but my special bunny that I had to put to sleep today will
always have a special place in my heart. In fact, I buried her in our yard
and put a stone heart we have on top....

Karin,
It is ok to tell us about the bunny! You did say you were caring for
her. What happened? It is amazing, mother nature and the good jobs that
their real mothers do. It is hard with an orphan. I am sure you tried
and did the best. I hope you are not feeling to bad. Please, share your
bunny story! Bunny stories are good, hockey stories are bad <GRIN>
