Hi Mike,

We would love to have you guys come down Sunday, let me check with George
on what his plans are and I will write you privately this evening, or give
you a call.

  Everyone,

I have been talking with Dr. Gribskov at Aloha Dog and Cat, Dr. Doug, as
most of us call him... He is Judy's full time vet and I use him for hips
and elbows exclusively. Doug is very knowledgeable about both OFA and Penn
Hip another evaluation method and he is willing to work with us on some
programs that can provide some cost effective measures to get the Brier
gang evaluated. If any of you are planning to do an alter in the very near
future and I think there are a few of you ready to do this,,, I would like
to ask you to consider perhaps talking with me and Dr. Doug about perhaps
doing a Penn Hip evaluation at the time of alter. This procedure is done
while the dog is under anesthesia only and can be done much younger than
OFA evaluations. So to do it while the dog is already under for the alter
is a good idea. The vet doing this procedure must be Penn Hip certified and
not all vets are. So this could necessitate not using your regular vet for
the alter and Penn Hip. Of course everyone should check with their own vet
and ask if they are Penn Hip certified. I also realize that there is a
bond with a vet normally, however if a vet is not Penn Hip certified he/she
would certainly agree that doing the procedure while the dog is already
under is the best thing for the dog and should respect your commitment to
the health and welfare of the breed.

Doug will also work with us on OFA submissions too but we will need to have
a group of at least 4 dogs at one visit for him to be able to give us a
break. Anyway that's the news on this and again, no pressure here but at
least we are all thinking and looking forward.

Gina
