Hello Brierpups list,

The purpose of this post is two-fold:

First, we want to wish our “Micha-moo” doggie a happy 10th Birthday!!!  Seems hard to believe that he was just 4 when I first met Michelob & Rick…  Rick rescued Michelob when he was 18 months old. He was a YACK – a backyard dog that called the picnic table his home! Rick removed 3 huge trash bags of fur off of Moo when he first came home.  He was scared to death and very unruly.  Six short weeks later, he earned CGC, followed later with his TDI.  He has competed in agility, obedience & tracking… One of his most favorite things to do is his pet therapy visits!  His butt starts wiggling 90 miles a minute when he sees Rick get the leash out!  He is our “monster mutt” and our “moo-m-doggie”!  He is our gentle giant with the most [Omega] of personalities & he is adored by us!

The second part of our news is not so good:

Mich has been suffering from an ulcerated cornea in his right eye. It seems that some dogs are prone to getting these as they get older and in his case nothing in particular is causing it. This started several weeks ago when we noticed his right eye not being open all the way. So off to the vet we go. We treated him unsuccessfully with eye drops and antibiotics. Then, a coupe of weeks ago we then took him to the ophthalmologist who debrided the ulcer (basically removed the ulcerated area)… and we treated him with 2 other medications. Last week we went back to the ophthalmologist to find that the 1st ulcer was now healed but he had a bigger one in a different place in the same eye. We elected to try the debriding procedure on this new ulcer again vs. surgery. We will have it checked again in another week. If it is worse or the same he will have to have corneal surgery. We hope that we do not have to do this as Mich’s immune system is compromised from an auto-immune disorder that we almost lost him to last year (so surgery is definitely a risk). Right now his eye is still not looking so good.  L

Anyhow, any positive thoughts you could send his way – would be appreciated as always!  Or, if anyone else has had experience this kind of ailment & has any additional ideas… then by all means, please share your experience!
