Heartworms are coming to the PNW!
HI All,
Spring is coming and with that comes fleas ticks and now heartworms to
the PNW... Here is some stuff you guys might find important. This
comes from a hand out Dr. Wood gave me at my last visit:
In 2001 248 practices responded to Merial and Merial reports 539 positive
dogs in OR. None or little in Eastern OR but Souther OR: Jackson and
Josephine counties: 218 & 226 respectively. 24 cases in Multnomah and
another 17 cases in Lane County. In Lane County one practice continues to
diagnose cases, a growing number that covers
2002. According to Dr. Bchrends whos practice is a few miles west of
Eugene he has seen 21 cases in 2002. 15 of those dogs are native to
Oregon and according to their owners they have not traveled outside the
area. The host for these mosquitoes seems to be Fern Ridge Reservoir
between Veneta and Eugene.
Stuff on ticks and fleas I gleaned from another list:

Also, on jstsayno2vaccs, Dr. Chambreau recommended Green Hope Farms Flee
Free, saying that it prevents fleas 90-95% and ticks 50-80%.....
