Military Foster Program
Hi All,
I am not sure if I have posted this here before, but even so it's still a
good reminder. With our nations current status a lot of military
are being called to active status and shipped out, far away from
home. Many of these people have pets and will not be able to take
their pet's with them in the event they are called to serve. So
there has been put into place a program for fostering. We of course
have submitted an application and we think the rest of you who can should
too. You guys are the best kind of people to do this. Your
all well educated about dogs and you all have dogs who should get along
well with brining in a stranger. So those that might be able to
help please submit an application. Here is the web site link:
http://www.netpets.org/netp/foster.php
When you click on the button for application it opens to
your email program a blank page with the address to
foster@netpets.... So if your confused and do not know what to
write to them here is what sent after they sent us a post back asking
specific questions. As you can see I was very clear on what we were
able to do. After years of doing foster for rescue I have a bit of
insight as to what I am personally capable of dealing with. And to
best serve the program I was very clear as to what we can do to
help.... This also might help you to decide if you would be
able to help or not. At any rate this is a way that we can all give
support on an individual basis...

The dogs fostered are not to be caged without written consent of the
owners, as they are house pets after all (for the most part). In addition,
these dogs should not be walked off lead.
* Any dog we foster would need to be crate trained and be able to run in a fully fenced area. NO exceptions. Sorry can not give on either of these nor should any pet owner... :-)
I have passed the web address for Military Foster homes needed to several list groups and my entire address book! :-)
Note to further explain how we live with our dogs... :-)
Hi,
We live in Woodburn Oregon, on 4 acres of farm fenced property. We are breeders of Golden Retrievers and I am (Gina) a work from home pet groomer, my husband is retired Navy working outside the home. We have 16 dogs of our own all house dogs, though we do have a kennel and we do use it when we need to. We have been active in rescue of needy dogs, and we board back our own dogs we produce so our dogs are all very use to having canine company come and go. Our dogs: 14 goldens ranging in age 13+years old to 13 weeks young, a German Shepherd dog, and a 6 pound Chihuahua.

We feed a whole raw diet to our dogs and this may be of a particular interest to anyone who might need foster that also feeds this way. We would have no problem feeding kibble though as we do not treat the way we feed our dogs as a religion... :-)
Our vet is less than a mile down the road and is on call for us 24/7. I am experienced in dealing with some ongoing medical conditions and have re-habed several post surgical dogs for orthopedic trauma including amputation.
We would be more than willing to give back by doing foster for a military person needing to leave a dog behind. Obviously that dog would need to have excellent social skills to get the fullest benefit of staying here in our home as a family member though we can if need be kennel a dog who is not so social. We can not take aggressive breeds however due to insurance restrictions of my business: Rottweilers, Dobermans ect. We would prefer to house a sporting breed, such as a Golden or Labrador.
Kinest Regards,
