Jake is home!

Title: Jake is home!

Jake is home!!!  He came home around 4:30 this afternoon.  He still has his catheter in (just in case).  He will need to go back in tomorrow to have it removed if all goes well tonight.

He threw up a little bit when he first got home, so we are watching him like a hawk!  He is still very much out of it!  He is resting right now & we are hoping he feels better tomorrow.  He had some home-made chicken & rice for dinner tonight (a small portion) and he ate it down like a good boy.  He still has diarrhea -- which I guess is to be expected.

We cancelled our trip to California this coming weekend (obviously!!!) --- to stay home and pamper him.  We even bought him a brand new doggie bed today, as he is used to sleeping on the bed with US!!!  If he doesn't end up using it, we were wanting to get one for our senior boy, Michelob anyway!

I must say, that this is the most expensive bra & knee high nylons I've ever invested in!  The total bill (between his overnight stay at the emergency vet clinic & the surgery and stays at our vet's office) came to $1,466!  Ouch!!!  While that amount "hurts" … his life is definitely worth much more than that!!! He is worth his weight in Gold and then some!  I'd much rather have him still here with us, happy & healthy -- than the $1,500 -- any day of the week!

The moral of this story?  What would we have done differently?  In hindsight, we should've taken him to emergency this past weekend when we first suspected that he was the culprit that ate the lingerie items.  And if not then, we should've taken him to our Vet on Monday.  Thankfully, we did take him in at the first signs of distress.  Fate & luck were most definitely on our side and we got him in before any damage was done to his internal organs.  And being 5 years old & VERY healthy helped a lot as well.  Jake was lucky, as were we!  The other moral… is that his Mommy will NEVER ever leave any type of lingerie items laying anywhere that Jake can possibly get to them.  He has eaten a remote control, the foam from inside the cushions on our previous couch, mail, printed paper, wedding invitations, bras, pantyhose… you name it!  He is a golden chow-hound!

He isn't completely out of the woods yet… so please keeping thinking good thoughts for him that he continues to improve through tomorrow & can ward off any infections.

Golden Hugs,
Yanna & Rick & a very groggy Jake
