Subject: Update on Michelob

Hi everyone,

Thanks again for all the positive thoughts for Michelob. He is showing

signs of improvement for now. There has been no more blood. His gums and

ears are looking better.

He can’t be feeling too awful, as yesterday I took the rest of the dogs

swimming - Mich is not allowed until he is better. Last night we had a

severe thunderstorm roll through and the electricity was off for 1-1/2

hours. During that time one of our smoke detectors keep beeping to let

us know the electricity was off. This constant noise was driving Mich

nuts! Normally I would just disconnect the smoke detector. However, this

one is about 15 feet off the ground and I don’t have a ladder that tall.

Mich wanted outside badly to escape the noise. Little did I know this

was just a ploy on his part to jump in the pool! I have to admit it was

getting rather warm in the house with no air conditioning, especially

right after a rain storm and the humidity levels were way up. Also dogs

on Pred do not handle heat well – so I am sure he was hot! He just stood

in the shallow end of the pool with  a poop eating grin on his face!

Gotta love them!

Late this morning we got the rest of his test results back. Everything

is negative – Valley fever, Tick fever, coagulation factors are good,

and the auto-immune panel was also negative. So the only thing that is

out of whack is his platelets! And yes, we did check thyroid too.

So what is causing this? I wish I knew! Our vet has no clue as to what

could have told his body to go into attack mode. Our vet says that most

of the dogs that have this problem and handle the treatments of Pred

seem to be cured and it does not recur unless there is another

underlying factor such as cancer.

So for right now Mich will stay on the 80mg of pred. Wed. we will go

back for a re-check and another blood panel to see if his platelet count

is where it should be. If it is we will start weaning him off the pred

and see what happens.

Please keep the positive thoughts coming. I will send out another update

after we get his next blood panel or if something happens in between now

and then!
