Thanks for the tip Gina.  Using the clicker, Katie got step one down in about two minutes!

That does not surprise me!  This is actually a lesson that was adapted from a clicker trainer.  The trainer I am working with does not care what a person uses for reward and or Qing and as you know a clicker is a great tool, very effective.  But in the class I am in it's expected that the handler has some understanding of training and what ever they choose to use is fine by her so the instructions are vague as to what to use as a tool.  Competition open class.  Since I have put a CD on a dog it's obvious I do know how to train just need the structure and the dog needs the socialization that only class can provide to get her ring ready.

All and all even if people are not looking to compete this exercise is a good one a fundamental base/core exercise that can really make all the difference in the world in how your dog reacts to you.  This is one that simply everyone should give a whirl.  In all honesty it can also be the foundation for keeping your dog safe in the event you have a situation.  Many situations:  Can help with recall (in case of danger) Can help with avoiding a dog fight ( if  two dogs are locked on each other and things are getting tense and you can divert your dogs attention back to you a situation can be avoided).  It's a simple building block...  And like building a house where you start from the ground up dog training is the same...

Ok off to the dog show, everyone chant Lucy!!!!
