Hi Guys! Digest from Gina

Good Morning Everyone!

Karin, and Patti, thanks for sharing the abroad info and the pictures! Sure sounds great, a trip to France and yes we expect lot's of photos! Speaking of photo's I just got a few really cute ones of Daisy (One litter) that I will scan in and put up on Gidget's page today.

We still have no rain and I am going to try to get more yard work done here today. Mowed all the lawns including the big pasture yesterday, so don't expect anything beyond this till after dark! :-)

Also wanted to pass on that this time of year is prime digging season for all Brier Goldens and foot injuries can result from digging! Digging is fun and is encouraged endorced by the gang here! <LOL> But in the event you end up with a pad injury here are some tips to share:

Most pad injuries can not be stitched if they are like an abrasion, skinned, (stubbed toe) but they do need treatment normally not a trip to the vet however. Pads bleed a lot, so applying a pressure bandage is sometimes the best thing to do:

1. clean the foot, use a mild soap (expect a reaction) rinse well. You can also use hydrogen peroxide, or good old Bactine as these debris dead tissue well.

a.Dry completely before moving on:

2. apply a clean pressure bandage:

a. Use a telfa pad to keep anything from sticking to the abrasion.

b. then pad with gauze or cotton or even toilet paper, padding the area with absorbent material that also acts as padding.

c. wrap snug but not tight vet wrap (non stick only adheres to it's self) or use an ace bandage if you do not have vet wrap. Normally the whole foot has to be wrapped.

Leave this bandage on for several hours up to 24 if necessary but wounds like this heal best if they are exposed to air so do not prolong bandage use.

Why bandage? Just so the wound has a chance to slightly heal over and form a scab and to keep dog from licking and getting blood everyplace.

Antibiotics? not normally necessary but you can use in home items:

1. Sugar, it is a natural antibiotic and anti inflammatory which can promote healing and pain relief.

2. Colloidal Silver, this is also a natural antibiotic, available at health food stores or via List member Judi L. who has TJ (Meg Triple) Judi is a distributor for Eola Products. She is out of town this week ( I know as we have TJ here) but you can reach Judi next week at:

mailto:LEGSjal1@attbi.com

This is also good for helping with ear infections a few drops after cleaning the affected ear and in a few days normally no more yeasty beasties... :-)

3. Oil of Lavender also a antibiotic that promotes healing.

So go out and dig but please try to not injure yourselves!

That's all for now,

Gina
