Hi everybody,
Dog booties are very easy to make, I make booties for
my dogs.
I had here in
Valdez, AK a neighbor who had a dog team and his wife showed me how to make
them.
I don't use
booties for my dogs very often, unless that we go for a walk and the road is
icy, like you Deb,
I keep they paws trimmed, they don't like to wear
booties all the time and they chew it up.
Have a great week-end, and "MERRY CHRISTMAS"
to you all.
Patti.
Hi Brad and Kim,
many of the mushers here
use a soft cotton flannel inner bootie and then a nylon shell outer bootie,
both use velcro. The trick is to use duct tape or 88 tape (black
electricians tape) to wrap them tightly on at the top.
Are there any
mushers in your area? Another thing would be to search the web for mushing
gear... Linda can your wondrous Copernica search engine point them in the
right direction?
Seems to me that Rae's Harness Shop was going to put
up a web site this year, I'm not sure if they did or not but it's a place to
start your search. Any place that sells mushing supplies/dog boxes/etc
should also have booties.
course, I also have to tell you that the
Iditarod teams START the race with no less than a thousand pairs of booties
packed in the gear bags because the dogs DO throw them off.
I have
the nylon shells and flannels here and can send you a pair of each to make
patterns from. They are easy peesy to run up on the machine.
We've
never booted the girls and Boomer in the snow as it interferes too much with
their footing and traction. do you have an injury you need to protect?
Otherwise I'd say just keep the hair in-between the pads clipped way short
and let them romp. When the ice is bad enough here to cut pads I just stop
running them 'cause I get tired of losing booties too,
lol. Debs

Greetings, Merry Christmas to you all from Brad, Kim, and Riley. We
were wondering if any of you have used dog booties for the snow
that will stay on? We have tried the brand "muttluks"
but they do not stay on so well. If anyone has any suggestions
please let us know. Take
Care, B&K and Riley
