Re: Raw Help
Hi Deb and IIene,
Well actually I don't concur. I do suggest knuckle bones. I have always
given my dogs knuckle bones even pre barf days. Had never had anyone puke
up bones from these. Actually have only had an instance or two even since
we have gone barf of anyone puking up bones but have always deduced that
the puking was more due to other crud they ate, like composted grass. With
the knuckle bones if they do break into the inside the marrow is
soft. They do break into them or at least mine do.
Any raw bones in my opinion are ok. I suggest if you want to do a "bone
day" as maybe sort of a fast which is really good for the dogs you get that
guy who said he can get you 40# a week of turkey necks you take him up on
that once in a while. Your dogs who are not use to eating them as a staple
will saver them and chew and grind on them. Rocket though will have it
gone in 3 minutes or so. :-) At your local butcher you might say I want
soup bones but don't need your best ones with lots of meat. Tell him the
bones are for dogs. They might even have some the label as dog bones. I
don't worry about size of the bones even the small ones like the round cut
ones in steak. I just give them more. They usually won't swallow them
whole but no big deal if they do as dogs digest bones. My poop is living
proof of that. I know others report raw bones coming out in their poop but
I have also not heard that this causes any problems for the dogs, more just
hesterics for the humans...
A few words to note though, if your dog is not use to bones move slowly
like a 1/2 T-neck if your going to do that the first couple of times and do
expect some loose stools possibly just from the change in diet.
