digest and options
Hi All,
I have asked Leigh about digest option and he has provided the following
answer as to why digest is not a easy option for this list.
Leigh wrote:
>>The digest is sorta the problem. The software we run on our server that
does all this does does not (easily) allow per-person digests. Mostly thats
because someone else decided this was the software we should run, and now
we are stuck with it. A typical work-around is to have two different lists,
the second called brierpups-digest. Everyone on that list would get digest
versions. No one would really know the difference since you would still
post to brierpups, but you would subscribe to brierpups-diges if thats what
you wanted. Not the greatest solution.<<
Here are a couple of solutions and problems from my end.
First this is what has worked well for me:
I am fine with the list as is because I set my filters to direct all
brierpup mail to a separate mail box just for this list. A digest of
sorts, as all posts that come form <brierpups@fast.cs.utah.edu> are
deposited into it's own mail box. This prevents them form being mixed in
with my general in box mail and when I want to read this mail I do when I
don't I don't.
I can help anyone with Eudora set this up but other programs I do not
know. I do know most programs do offer this option. You might check with
your provider if your AOL or read the tutorials that most programs
have. Check under filters.
Why not move the list to E Groups I am sure some of you have wondered? A
few reasons. One E Groups doesn't alert us to virus stuff like Leigh does.
:-) I think this is a very good reason. (shut up Deb) <snicker> Also *I*
do not have the time to set up and learn how to do this as well as maintain
the list and requirements of E Groups.
So I hope that the explanation and suggestion might serve to relieve some
issues with this for each of you. Let me know.
Ok, got to get my buns to work, as I had to take Monday off this week for
Rocky which put me behind by about 6 dogs this week.
