Re: Transitioning onto Raw Foods

Hi Deb,

I am off to slave away out at Timberline, grooming Judy's dog and checking
in o the rescue pup's. So here is a brief non specific guide...

( Sorry I didn't read your post to raw list. I have that list in it's own
box now and seldom even open the box which is why I didn't see your post. )

Basically I just followed my regular dog diet for Seiko (who went raw at 8
weeks) But fed her more of it. I only feed two times per day even pup's
because I don't want protein spikes that cause fast growth. With raw I
feel this is way more important because the quality of the protein it good
and absorption is better... Seiko was a natural and eats ANYTHING
including all veggies. She has never turned her nose up to anything. I
started her out on the small ends of T-necks about 6 ounces and 3/4 pound
of veggie mix for breakfast to that I added couple tablespoons of cottage
cheese, V-C powder, and a child's chewable vitamin. Dinner at first was
kibble for about a week. The next week I gave just RMB for dinner and
started adding supplements to her breakfast such as flax and kelp. I just
worked into it slowly but with her again never a problem. By 4 months I
would say she was eating as much if not more than SeaJay: full pound of
flesh meat ( chicken hind quarter) or 3/4 pound of ground with veggies
about 25% veggie. And dinner, a full Tom neck at about a pound. I fed her
this till about 7 months. Just cut her back last week a bit as she is in a
slower growth stage now. Also I don't do egg whites with puppies. I did
give her a raw yoke every day too though. Snacks during the day were whole
carrots or other veggies like broccoli stems. I am sure there are things I
am forgetting...

Got to zip, more on the grain thing later, I did forget about that post.
