Dear Carolyn,
First let me say that all dog breeders, well most dog breeders, want to
do the best for their dogs. Number one reason is health, cause our vet
bills look like the national debt. I have been researching dog foods for
a long time, and have tried many of them. I got so sick of the results
they promised and started researching a RAW diet. I am convinced, as is
Gina and Deb, that it is the best you can do for your dog. Gina and
Debbie tried very hard to help me make the switch. Problem was
suppliers, even though I am close to one of the biggest cities in the
USA. The best I could find was a guy that could promise me forty pounds
of chicken backs a week. Well, I need one hundred pounds a week, so that
was out. We started on Wellness instead. First off, we just started the
dogs that were showing to see if we saw a difference. Amazing!!!!!
Wellness is a takeoff of a RAW diet. But, it is baked, so that is the
first wrong. That is why I said it is second best to a RAW diet. They do
cook the food. But, the food they cook is all human grade and contains
all the nice things you would feed in a RAW diet.
Chicken, or Lamb, Oatmeal, fruits, veggies, Probiotics, Prebiotics.
They add fish, blueberries, apples, cottage cheese, flax and fish oils.
The other thing that I am so impressed with, the fat content is very
low, and the protein level high. Not other foods can do this. It is also
a hard to find food. There is a website that can help you find a store
near you. http://www.oldmotherhubbard.com
Rocket is the first puppy I will be totally growing up on this food. I
have a five month old that I switched to it and she is doing great,
maybe to much energy. In fact, they all have too much energy lately, and
I may have just hit on my problem!! Forget this whole post, I am
switching back to my old dog food ;)
At a dog show this weekend, I was told that Sensible Choice came out
with a brand of food like Wellness. If you don't have Wellness in your
area, maybe you could find this one instead. It looks very good! It is
called Sensible Choice Natural Blend.
