Re: Monza update
Hi All
Lyn makes a couple of comments here that prompt me to make comments. :-)
>Monza discovered birdies in flight this morning. Sat right down immediately
and stared at them. <
I have noticed these guys are very bird orientated. We have a lot of birds
here and when the litter was here I would see them all lined up in the pen
just sitting alert staring at the blueberry bushes where the birds really
like to hang. I think we have some potential here with possible
hunting/retrieving performance... :-))))

First on public classes verses private obedience lessons. I very
strongly encourage all of you to go with public classes and to make this an
on going life long practice if your incline to be "recluse" . Do private
training in addition if you wish but you can not beat the socialization
that the public classes provide.
Dogs need to be around other breeds of dogs to learn how to interact with
diffrent breeds. As well diffrent people, diffrent sexes, attire, size
shape, color, smell, list goes on. All of these things play a huge roll in
how well adjusted your dog will be. Dogs who see only private trainers
often have social handicaps and become isolated so to speak. Good way to
create personality problems such as separation anxiety. It's also a good
if you can have others take your puppy on outings. Lots of people lots of
other dogs stimulation to new sounds and sights are very important for a
dog of any breed. Yes Goldens by nature are not spooky, but you can create
a spooky dog by sheltering it. I would hope that each of you have taken
your puppy on at least 5 car rides by now, that your puppy has met many new
people and seen lots of new places...
Example is Scarlette was raised in a kennel only for the first five months
of her life before we got her. When we brought her home she did not know
what a ball was or had ever been in a car. She learned real fast what
balls were but still to this day we can not ride Scarlette loose in the car
and she would rather not go... We don't like this as we like to take our
dogs with us when ever we can. As well at her first obedience classes she
barfed every time. She was so nervous around other dogs... Please please
take your puppies out get them use to everything...
> >he still likes to urinate every hour or so when out of the crate.<
Puppies pee! TRiX pees about every 30 minutes when she is awake and always
when she wakes even from only a 5 minute nap. Some puppies are able to
hold it longer some are not. This is not unusual nor doe it concern me in
the slightest. I do not think if your puppies are urinating with frequency
it means any more than the system is working (especially if they hold it
all night in the crate if a puppy is going in his/her crate then you *might
have an issue) The brain has not connected just yet. Potty training is in
part as you all know your "problem" (note in Owners Manual I clearly give
you that responsibility) <smile>. In addition to it being a learned
behavior bladder control comes with age...
*might: If your absolutely sure *you* are following the rules: taking up
water hour before bed time giving proper potty break just before bed and
your still having crate problems then you probably have a medical
problem... If not it's *you* and or just still learning/control curve.
Off to work!
