Intro and hello to all
Good Morning everyone,
I'm Deb McFail and several of you know me already. Ilene and Troy, and Gina
and Linda S. (g) but Gina and now Linda have asked me to introduce myself
and do a brief bio. I've got Judy Spink's young male here with me, he's a
week behind your guys and gals and I originally was on the list for a
Scarlette baby, but gave him over to Ilene, (you owe me Ilene, lol) Judy had
a boy stashed just waiting for the right home to appear and I was it, wow...
I am so grateful I can't say how much... what a joy this pup is. I'll be
sending pictures to Gina today so she can scan them in and put them on the
site.
Ha, brief bio.... that's gonna be tough because I talk a lot and well... I
talk a lot (g) I've been in Alaska for well over 20+ years and seldom travel
outside and have been in 'dogs' for a handful of those years. Started with a
pound husky and wound up with Goldens 5 years back. Rosie is our oldest and
was a 'pet' puppy. She was nice enough to show which is how I wound up
coming into competition via the back door of the competition breed ring.
Her sisters kept beating us though, and I hated the breed ring with a
passion but couldn't find another area that gave me the bonding I wanted
with this wonderful dog until I started taking puppy classes at the
Obedience training place. One thing led to another and we wound up seriously
training for the obedience ring and I found that I had a dog who was bonded
to me tighter than super glue and more than willing to train for the ring.
Rosie's 4 1/2 now and yes, we've had our trials and tribulations and even
took a year off from any sort of training due to running into a 'training
nazi' but Rosie let me know she was ready and we went back. She got her
first Obedience title the summer she was 2 1/2 and picked up her first
Canadian Obedience title last summer. We are weeding our way through some
field work searching for those beginning titles as well, but it's tough to
do up here as our water is so cold for such a large part of the season. I'll
start her on her first tracking lessons pretty quickly now and hopefully
she'll get her TD (Tracking Dog title) in late August up in Fairbanks
Alaska.
What a wonderful journey those first few years of training Rosie was because
it opened up many other avenues of fun stuff to do with these dogs! Sophie,
our second Golden, has her first Tracking title and I truly loved this area
of the sport as it requires nothing in the way of dressing up except boots
and bug dope, lol! Gina wanted me to let you guys with these new puppies
know that if *I* can do this stuff you can too and that hopefully my bit of
a story would encourage you to check it out and maybe forge ahead into new
friendships and new fun things to do with your babies. From what I'm reading
this litter is smart as tacks and you should be able to definitely do more
than the simple sits and downs and stuff.
Well, I will close for now... didn't say half of what I wanted to but Boomer
is sleeping and that means I can hurry and clean this wrecked house up and
start working (I moved my office to my house when Rosie first came to us in
1996 and still work from the office here). I'm enjoying all of your puppy
stories tremendously!
