Perry's got his head deep in a big computer contract due on Thursday,
and is not reading e-mail, but I'll pipe up :-)
It is very frustrating dealing with issues and personalities within clubs,
but I know Perry feels that, as a member of the local KC board, he has
been able to move issues forward that benefit all local dogs.
For instance, he volunteered to become the liaison between the KC and
the local animal shelter and is helping to set up joint projects that benefit
both organizations. The club becomes more accessible to the public and
less regarded as an elite bunch of snobs with fancy dogs. Many dog club
people are deep into learning as much as they can about dogs...how
to groom, feed, train, etc. They have a wealth of knowledge they can bring
to bear on dog issues.
Right now, we're both volunteers on the temperament testing team at the
shelter that screens dogs for a match with their best home or helps owners
with training problems. We've been able to bring in another club member
with a lot of experience in aggressive dog behavior. This is where Perry and
I feel it's important to turn all that knowledge that has come our way through
mentors, listgroups, and friends, and use it beyond earning kudos for ourselves
and our dogs.
And if you're new to the dog world and don't think this post has anything to do
with you...think again :-) The next time you hear someone at work, or family
or friends ask about where to buy crates, how to potty train a puppy, where to
enroll in classes, you'll have some answers! You'll be a mentor to someone
that is even newer to dogs :-)

me) but didn't Angel take one >>home?
Gina has exquisite taste! She tracked down a person that etches glass
and had them do specific trophies for each class at the Specialty.
Angel's First Place for 9-12 month puppy bitch was a candy jar (you know
the round ones with the fitted tops) etched with a golden puppy on the front.
It's one of the more useful *and* beautiful trophies we've brought home.
And each class had something a little different. The hunting dog class
had a golden etched with a duck in its mouth.

Rocky *lives* for bumpers :-) He will be a one happy boy this weekend
splashing in that water. What a gift to him and yourselves to allow that
memory to fill your hearts.
Bless you, Gina, you have one of the biggest hearts I know of in all of
goldendom <s>
