Extensible Proxy Services Framework

Caching proxies are a powerful new Internet infrastructure element, and several parties are proposing to standardize the platform through the IETF, starting with IETF48 in Pittsburgh and continuing with IETF49 in San Diego.

There are four related IETF groups. OEPS is this Open and Extensible Proxy Services group, WREC (with possible follow-on group WEBI) is concerned with WEB infrastructure including Caching and Replication issues, and CNDP is the Content peering group that is defining an architecture for finding, delivering, and accounting for different types of web content. C15N will discuss context-based name resolution and may result in a protocol that could be utilized by both OEPS and CDNP.

The schedule for the related meetings in San Diego is:

A workshop on EPSFW (the previous name for OEPS) was held September 13 in San Jose, California; presentations and notes are available.

    Discussion

An initial draft for discussion has been submitted to the IETF, and a mailing list at ietf-openproxy@imc.org is being established (send "subscribe" to ietf-openproxy-request@imc.org). The WREC mailing list and working group may also be of interest.
